July has been good to Egg Films' Zwelethu Radebe, who's taken home four awards in the last three weeks.
Zwelethu directed The Butterfly Effect commercial as part of M&C Saatchi Abel’s South African launch campaign for Strongbow, which won a Silver Apex Award for creative effectiveness. M&C Saatchi says it was “the most successful launch globally for the Heineken Company” in 2016.
Zwelethu also wrote and directed The Hangman, which won Best Short Film and an Sembene Ousmane Award for Excellence in Filmmaking and African Storytelling at Zanzibar International Film Festival, as well as Best South African Short Film at Durban International Film Festival a week later. The Hangman is the story of Khetha (Thato DH Dhladla), a black prison warder guarding black inmates in Pretoria Central Prison’s gallows near the end of Apartheid, whose job is further complicated when his estranged father (Khulu Skenjana) is transferred to Death Row.
Zwelethu directed both The Butterfly Effect and The Hangman before joining Egg Films.
The most internationally awarded South African production company in 2017, Egg Films represents directors Brent Harris, Dan Mace, Dani Hynes, Jason Fialkov, Kyle Lewis, Lebogang Rasethaba, Slim, Sunu, and Zwelethu Radebe. We do TV ads, music videos, short films and other things too. For more information, visit eggfilms.tv.
