    ABF starts preparation for annual Cape Town golf day

    The date for this year's Advertising Benevolent Fund's (ABF's) golf day in Cape Town has been finalised for 4 September at Milnerton golf course. The advertising and communications industry is urged to support the event.
    Sharlene Vallance, event organiser says: "We have decided on Milnerton golf course as it is very central and fairly easy to get to. The 4th of September will see the advertising community networking and raising funds for their industry charity."

    "We enjoyed great support last year and we are hoping to top that a little bit this year," she says. "Now that companies know that we have an established golf day we're hoping to see a bit more support. We find that most of the ABF cases that call for aid are located in the Cape area, so it's very important to us that we include the Cape advertising and media community in our fundraising efforts."

    The ABF is a non-profit organisation helping those in the advertising, media and allied industries that have fallen on hard times. Amongst its many contributions, the ABF, in conjunction with Lifeline have a dedicated 24/7 call centre line for people in the advertising, media and related industries who need counselling or treatment for stress, HIV/AIDS and substance abuse problems. The ABF also provides study in the field to deserving, underprivileged students with institutions like the AAA.

    Everyone knows the ABF in the ad industry, well that's how it used to be. With the constant flow of fresh blood being injected into our industry, the ABF has seemed to be left in the forgotten realms of the minds of the veteran crews of advertising.
