US doccie team partners with Mozambicans

US, ARKANSAS: Four college students are preparing to partner with Mozambicans to film a documentary on African development. The students' stated goal for the documentary, tentatively titled “The Kujilana Project,” is to teach villagers video-camera savvy and help them gather footage of local stories pre-dating Mozambique's Civil War and the Portuguese Colonial War.

Tierney Fellowship 2009 call for applications

Applications are now being accepted for the 2009 Tierney Fellowship at the Market Photo Workshop. The fellowship aims to provide the successful applicant with the financial support necessary to research and produce a body of photographic work, in consultation with a mentor, over the period of a year.

Zimbabweans make appeal on film

JOHANNESBURG: Citizens of Zimbabwe have issued an urgent appeal to the South African leaders to alleviate their misery. Their anguished voices have been caught on film by a three-member team from CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation, which visited Zimbabwe over the Christmas period.

Mozambique short film wins at AiM

The inaugural Africa in Motion (AiM) film festival, the shortlist of which consisted of eight short films by young and emerging African filmmakers, has been won by Rogério Manjate from Mozambique for his short film "I Love You" (2007).

ACP launches film production support programme

The African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP) presents the ACP-EU Support Programme for the ACP Cinema and Audiovisual Sector. The Secretariat of the ACP Group of States and the European Union have designed a new support programme for the ACP audiovisual sector, ACP Films (ie. cinema and television). ACP Films is managed by the ACP Secretariat and financed by the 9th European Development Fund (EDF).

Malawi's Central Bank has to compensate girls for photographs
