Luanda International Jazz Festival - African musical heritage returns to its source

Many in the African diaspora trace their rhythmic roots to Angola's drumming. On Friday 31 July to Sunday 02 August, this musical heritage returns to its source as musicians from Brazil, Mozambique, South Africa and the United States (US) descend on Cine Atlântico in Angola's capital city, Luanda. They will participate in the launch of the Luanda International Jazz Festival - an initiative of Ritek - a first in the diamond-rich and oil-endowed country. “Despite its rich musical history, Angola has never had an international jazz festival,” says company's CEO António Cristóvão.

Young African Leaders recognised in Tanzania

The president of Zanzibar, Abeid Amani Karume has launched an initiative to recognise the achievements of young African leaders known as the Young African Leaders Awards. President Karume launched the African awards on behalf of chairman of the African Union, Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, President of the United Republic of Tanzania.

Uganda to host COMESA telecom regulators

The Uganda Communication Commission (UCC) is organising a one-day symposium to be attended by telecommunications regulators from the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) member states. This is going to be one of the activities of the commission that would be marking its tenth anniversary on 22 May 2008. Other activities would include launching of a new corporate identity and the logo.
