AIG Uganda adopts Chartis as new identity

Chartis is the new name for the local subsidiary of insurance firm American International Group (AIG) in Uganda. The new identity which is derived from the Greek word for map, “underscores AIG's 90-year history as a successful global pioneer of insurance in various parts of the world,” according to Alex Wanjohi, MD, Chartis Uganda.

Somaliland gets first debit card

Uganda: Barclays sends local entrepreneurs to China expo

Kenya Data Networks have quadrupled its bandwidth offering for all its existing and new clients. This offer went into effect on Wednesday, 21 October 2009. Clients previously receiving 1Mbps now enjoy 4Mbps and only pay for 1Mbps and the other 3Mbps are offered free of charge.

Somali journalists launch NUSOJ Kenya branch

NAIROBI: The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) launched on Saturday, 17 October 2009, its Kenyan branch in the capital Nairobi to take care of the interests and welfare of its members who have fled and are now living as exiles. The branch, which was launched at Stanley Hotel, will also serve NUSOJ members who are working in Nairobi for the international media outlets.

World Cup trophy arrives in Uganda next month

The FIFA World Cup trophy is expected to arrive in Uganda in November 2009, as part of its 86-nation tour, after its short stint in Cairo and Liberia. The trophy will be in the country, between 14 November and 16 November 2009.
