Luanda International Jazz Festival - African musical heritage returns to its source

Many in the African diaspora trace their rhythmic roots to Angola's drumming. On Friday 31 July to Sunday 02 August, this musical heritage returns to its source as musicians from Brazil, Mozambique, South Africa and the United States (US) descend on Cine Atlântico in Angola's capital city, Luanda. They will participate in the launch of the Luanda International Jazz Festival - an initiative of Ritek - a first in the diamond-rich and oil-endowed country. “Despite its rich musical history, Angola has never had an international jazz festival,” says company's CEO António Cristóvão.

Nigeria hosts 2009 West & Central Africa Com

The 6th West & Central Africa Com conference will take place from 17 - 18 June 2009 in Abuja, Nigeria. According to Informa Telecoms & Media's World Cellular Information Service, growth remains robust in Nigeria: in the last quarter of 2008, the West Africa market recorded the highest number of net additions since GSM was introduced in 2001.

ATCON to spearhead local content development

The Association of Telecommunication Companies of Nigeria (ATCON) has said that it will take steps to redress the situation of low level content in Nigeria's booming information and communications technology industry. The trade body of telecom companies in Nigeria said that as a first step towards solving the problem, it would convene a national summit that would examine the issue and set a path on local content development.
