Voetspore team tracks West Africa

SABC2 has announced the return of, reality show, Voetspore. The team consists of six individuals who travelled from Gansbaai to Gabon, with Johan Badenhorst leading the team, as they travel from Casablanca to the Cape with three 4x4's. The aim is to travel to Cape Town, South Africa in less than 100 days.

Next week, broadcasters in the country will clink glasses of champagne to celebrate the golden jubilee of television in Nigeria, and indeed the African continent. Africa's first television station, Western Nigerian Television (WNTV) was established in 1959. From that year, television-broadcasting spread massively across Nigeria motivated by two main factors: politics and education.

Nigeria's digital broadcast migration a mirage?

The 2012 date for switch over from analogue to digital broadcasting in Nigeria may be a mirage if certain steps are not immediately taken by the government and key stakeholders in the country's fledging broadcast industry. This is the view of Ben Egbuna, veteran broadcast manager and former director general of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN).

About six weeks ago, a young man, Uche Nwazeapu bolted from nothingness to national limelight after winning this year's edition of Gulder Ultimate Search. Although, the hullabaloo generated by this years search might not be comparable to the early versions, the seven million-naira prize money would be enough to make him a very happy man for a long time.

CNBC US anchor, Erin Burnett, will be broadcasting her worldwide programmes from the West African business hub in Lagos, on Thursday, 21 May 2009 between 1pm and 4pm CAT. Burnett is anchor of "Street Signs" and co-anchor of "Squawk on the Street" on CNBC.

2010 media training programme underway in Senegal

On Monday, 12 May 2009 sports journalists began a programme sponsored by FIFA to provide mid-career training to more than 300 reporters and photographers across Africa. The programme is part of FIFA's "Win in Africa with Africa" development programme.

The event, which took place on 25 February, 2009 in Lagos, was hosted by Sean O' Hara, BBC World News executive director, and Katie Waxman, BBC World News senior account manager.

Nigeria: Senate seeks to censor Big Brother Africa

Abuja: Senate has directed the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to censor or ban outright the Big Brother Africa Reality programme brought into Nigerian homes via the Digital Satellite Television (DSTV) owned by Multichoice if the contents contradict socio-cultural values of the Nigerian people.

CNN's 'Inside Africa' in Ghana

"Inside Africa" on CNN International will be hosted on July 26, by Nkepile Mabuse who comes from Ghana, West Africa. The programme features special coverage of the CNN MultiChoice African Journalist Awards, which took place on Saturday 19 July in Accra, plus there's an analysis and focus on where Ghana stands today, 50 years after independence.
