Western Cape Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Tourism Alan Winde impressed last Thursday, 23 May 2013, at the Net Prophet conference with news of exciting tech innovations for the province. Winde's announcement of the Bandwidth Barn ICT business incubator model being spread throughout the rest of Africa was met with resounding applause from attendees at the Artscape.

Non-communicable diseases: Africa must 'spend a lot more'

BERLIN, GERMANY: According to scidev.net, Olive Shisana, CEO of the South African Human Sciences Research Council, said at the World Health Summit in Berlin, Germany that infectious diseases, such as tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS, are expected to decline while non-communicable diseases, including cardiovascular disease, cancer and diabetes, will increase in Africa over the coming decades.

Africa is world's second most connected region by mobile subscriptions

LONDON, UK: Africa has become the second most connected region in the world in terms of mobile subscription count, up from fourth place at the end of 2010, according to new research by Informa Telecoms & Media, and the number of mobile subscriptions in Africa is expected to reach one billion in 2016.
