Ugandan journalists blocked from reporting at airport

A number of Ugandan journalists were blocked by security forces from accessing the national airport at Entebbe to cover the return of an army officer, General David Sejusa (formerly Tinyefuza) who sparked off a controversial debate in an alleged ploy dubbed 'The Muhoozi project' in which the president's son, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, would ascend to the presidency. However, General Sejusa - who is the coordinator of intelligence services did not return as expected, due to unknown reasons.

IFJ condemns public threats against journos in Liberia

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) has supported journalists in Liberia who have issued a media blackout, by printing black front pages after a government official was accused of threatening them. Radio and TV stations are also protesting against the government by suspending broadcasts for two hours daily beginning on Friday, 10 May, 2013.

CPJ calls on AU to uphold press freedom

The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has addressed a letter to chairperson of the African Union Commision, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, asking the body to mark World Press Freedom Day today by calling for the release of all journalists imprisoned in Africa and appealing for justice in the murders of journalists killed in the line of duty.

Afri Radio to sue regulatory body

Afri Radio, a privately-owned radio station has resolved to take legal action against the statutory media regulatory body, the Independent Media Commission (IMC) after its broadcast license was withdrawn on 12 April 2013, following a meeting between the IMC and other senior government officials.
