Media registration for FIFA bidders event open

On 4 December 2009, FIFA will host a media event in which the 11 bidders for the 2018 and/or 2022 FIFA World Cup will be able to present their bids to the international media at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) in South Africa. The accreditation procedure will be conducted via the FIFA Media Channel.

BPA to audit Africa Telecoms

Global media auditor, BPA Worldwide has announced that Africa Telecoms is to become its first audited title published by an African media owner. Published by 3i Publishing in Cape Town, South Africa, Africa Telecoms will launch in November 2009.

Intl Association of Sports Newspapers launches website

The International Association of Sports Newspapers (IASN), founded in June 2008, launched its website on Friday, 23 October 2009, which highlights its work in the promotion of the interests and freedom of the sports press and is aimed at media executives, sponsors and the sports press audience at large.

Media oppression persists in Azerbaijan

The World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA), the World Editors Forum and the International Association of Sports Newspapers have protested against the jailing of four journalists in Azerbaijan for defamation. President Ilham Aliyev's administration had previously promised that measures were being taken to decriminalise the offense.

2010 media accreditation begins in December

The media accreditation for the 2010 FIFA World Cup will begin on 5 December 2009, a day after the final draw, which will be held in Cape Town, the Local Organising Committee (LOC) and FIFA announced on Monday, 5 October 2009, at a media workshop held in Johannesburg and attended by more than 100 journalists.
