YouTube doubles video file size to 2G

WASHINGTON: Video-sharing site YouTube announced on Wednesday, 1 July 2009 that it was doubling the size limit for uploads to its website to allow users to post more high-definition (HD) video.

African music goes digital

Recordings of rarely heard traditional African music collected over a period of 50 years by music historian Hugh Tracey are now available to anyone on earth via the internet. The International Library of African Music (Ilam), based at Rhodes University in the Eastern Cape, is in the process of digitising the music, which Tracey recorded in the southern, eastern and central regions of Africa.

Facebook launches in Swahili

In yet another move to affirm Swahili as a lingua franca, Facebook launched its own version in the language. The event took place at one of Kenya' premiere schools, the Starehe Boys Centre. It is among the top high school institutions for boys and has produced a large majority of the present day political and business leaders in Kenya.
