African entertainment stars for 2010 Final Draw

The Final Draw for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa will take place in Cape Town on 4 December 2009 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC).The entertainment lined up for the 90-minute live show will include the Soweto Gospel Choir, Beninoise singer-songwriter Angélique Kidjo and Johnny Clegg.

Media registration for FIFA bidders event open

On 4 December 2009, FIFA will host a media event in which the 11 bidders for the 2018 and/or 2022 FIFA World Cup will be able to present their bids to the international media at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) in South Africa. The accreditation procedure will be conducted via the FIFA Media Channel.

UN resolution supports SA 2010

With the United Nations General Assembly passing a resolution in support of South Africa's 2010 FIFA World Cup, UN secretary-general Ban Ki-moon has urged tournament organisers to take advantage of the unique opportunity it offers to change Africa's image.

PUMA unveils 2010 team kits

PUMA has unveiled Afcon 2010 and World Cup 2010 team kits to be worn by its 11 African teams: Ghana, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Mozambique, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Togo, Senegal, Angola and Namibia. The kits will be worn at January's African Cup of Nations in Angola, and the World Cup in South Africa.

World Cup trophy arrives in Uganda next month

The FIFA World Cup trophy is expected to arrive in Uganda in November 2009, as part of its 86-nation tour, after its short stint in Cairo and Liberia. The trophy will be in the country, between 14 November and 16 November 2009.

When Brazil was awarded the rights for hosting the 2016 Olympic Games, analysts were astounded not so much by the fact that Rio de Janeiro came out on top, but that it won so convincingly. Everyone in Olympic circles had expected that the presence of Barack and Michelle Obama in Copenhagen would tilt the voting towards Chicago.
