Uganda's annual PRAU Excellence Awards, the event that recognises public relations and communications excellence in Uganda, which was set to take place in November 2012, eventually took place on Friday, 22 March 2013 at Imperial Royale Hotel. This years event coincided with the East African Public Relations Conference (EAPRC) which took place from 20-22 March in Kampala, Uganda.

Deadline for SIM card registration extended in Uganda

The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has extended the SIM card registration deadline for 90 days, after the Human Rights Network for Journalists-Uganda (HRNJ-Uganda) and the Legal Brains Trust (LBT) dragged it to court, seeking an injunction not to switch off unregistered subscribers on 1 March, 2013.

MTN Uganda officially commissioned its fibre network at Katuna Border in Kabale district on Friday, 8 February 2013. The event, held at the Katuna border post, was attended by the Minister of ICT, Ruhakana Rugunda, the executive director of Uganda Communications Commission, Godfrey Mutabazi as well as the MTN Uganda chairman, Charles Mbire.

MTN Uganda plans to deploy LTE in Uganda

MTN Uganda plans to deploy Long Term Evolution (LTE) network in Uganda during the coming months, reportedly being the first to offer this technology in East Africa. Popularly known as 4G, LTE is a 'standard for wireless communication of high-speed data for mobile phones and data terminals'. A 4G system provides mobile ultra-broadband internet access.
