Tanzania: Media march for press freedom

Tanzania's journalists took to the streets of Dar es Salaam last week to protest against the three-month banning of a newspaper that exposed official corruption. According to the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA), it was the first time in Tanzania's history that journalists marched against the government, accusing it of trying to stifle media freedom. Finalists in the prestigious CNN MultiChoice African Journalist 2008 Competition were announced today, 15 May 2008, by Azubuike Ishiekwene, Chair of the independent judging panel. This year the competition, now in its 13th year, received a record 1912 entries from 44 countries throughout the African continent, including French- and Portuguese-speaking Africa. Swedish agency offers training opportunities to African journalists

The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency has announced vacancies for the 2008 Seminar on Journalism and Democracy at the Institute for Further Education of Journalists, Fojo in Sweden.
