Gauteng basks in Oscar nominations

The growing international recognition and acceptance of the South African film industry is positive news for Gauteng, with all of District 9, part of Invictus as well as award-winner Skin, having been filmed in the province. This follows Tuesday's announcement that South African-linked films have scored an all-time high of six Oscar nominations (four for District 9 and two for Invictus).

King content, 3D bring South Africans back to the movies

South Africa's big cinema chains, Nu Metro and Ster-Kinekor, have reported a surge in movie attendance over the past two years. Both chains have responded by investing aggressively in new screens countrywide, as well as in outfitting existing complexes with the latest three-dimensional (3D) and digital projectors.

SA 3D rig at London show

3DRigs.com (based in South Africa) and Jigsaw Systems are launching the 3D Pro Ultra Rig at the Broadcast Video Expo on 16-18 February 2010 at Earls Court, London. This follows the recent announcement that Jigsaw Systems recently acquired the new agency and exclusive distribution for the product in the UK.

Skin continues to garner awards, nominations

Having won over 12 festival awards, the South African film ‘Skin' has now been nominated for Best Foreign Film award at the NAACP Image Awards, while Sophie Okonedo, who plays the role of Sandra Laing in the film, has been nominated for the Outstanding Actress award.

In recognition of the launch of the film Invictus and the ‘95 Rugby World Cup, local South African agency Quick eMarketing convinced Warner Bros to put up the final's most famous picture on Facebook for attendees at the game to tag themselves (or their friends).
