NYF appoints new head, expands competition

The New York Festivals (NYF) has appointed Rose Anderson to the position of executive director of its Television & Film Awards to ensure that the competition continues to evolve with the changing landscape of the television and film industry. Anderson will manage all facets of the awards, oversee the strategy to expand the competition's footprint, and assemble an advisory board culled from the most respected and influential minds representing the television and film community.

SA short wins AiM film competition

A silent experimental documentary from South Africa won the second annual Africa in Motion (AiM) short film competition. Paul Emmanuel's 3SAI: A Rite of Passage was screened as part of the Africa in Motion Film Festival, held 22 October - 1 November 2009, at the UK African Film Festival, which takes place at the Filmhouse in Edinburgh, Scotland.

The CIT:Y Festival 2009 announced the winners of the various bursaries at its awards ceremony at Museum Africa on Wednesday, 21 October 2009 - giving a number of Johannesburg's fledgling artists and performers a significant financial boost in their respective study paths. These were made possible with sponsorship and support from the MTN SA Foundation, the City of Johannesburg: Directorate: Arts, Culture and Heritage and Arts Alive.

This Is It smashes presale box office records

This Is It, the Michael Jackson film scheduled to open on Wednesday, 28 October 2009, has broken all previous pre-sale ticket records for a film release in South Africa. Ster-Kinekor announced yesterday, Tuesday 20 October, that it has sold over 18 000 tickets to date.

Nu-Metro claims lead in 3D cinema race
