iThemba School takes off

The iThemba School in Capricorn, a suburb in Cape Town, was officially opened this week with finance from Lufthansa Global Telesales (GTS) in collaboration with Help Alliance, a non-profit organisation in Germany run by Lufthansa employees and other sponsors.

Global recognition for local CSR initiatives

The Young Presidents Organisation (YPO) named Pick n Pay's new chairman, Gareth Ackerman, the winner of this year's CSR Award for Leadership on 9 March 2010. Marc Lubner, CEO of MaAfrika Tikkun, took home the CSR Award for Philanthropic/Non-Profit Organisation.

KFC issues pothole challenge

Mimmos, 94.7 team up for Global Pizza Challenge, charity

Mimmos and 94.7 Highveld Stereo's Jeremy Mansfield recently rejoined forces to enter the 2010 Global Pizza Challenge for a shot at designing a pizza worthy of being crowned the world's best. Last year, their efforts fed 1800 children for a year.

Researching access to funding for civil societies

Collect-a-Can is searching for companies in outlying areas to become agents and assist in its can recycling projects. Scrap metal dealers, multi-recycling companies and/or any other businesses that are willing and have the infrastructure to assist, are encouraged to get involved. The agents would be helping their community while at the same time benefiting from being part of the network.

FoodBank launches new model to feed SA

FoodBank SA has come up with a way to combat the increasing shortage of food in South Africa and is launching a new initiative to partner with food producers, manufacturers and farmers. It fed more than 20 million people throughout South Africa in 2009, but this fell far short of the five billion meals needed.
