However the study suggests that if a man's PSA level is rising quickly, a prostate biopsy is reasonable to determine if he has prostate cancer. These findings are being presented this week at the North Central Section of the American Urological Association (www.ncsaua.org/) in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Read full story... | Send to a friend

http://www.bizcommunity.com/rss/196/335.html

Elevated PSA levels in men are not necessarily a predictor of the need for a prostate biopsy: Study

Researchers at Wake Forest University School of Medicine and the University of Wisconsin-Madison have discovered that some elevated prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels in men may be caused by a hormone normally occurring in the body, and are not necessarily a predictor of the need for a prostate biopsy.
Read full story... | Send to a friend

http://www.bizcommunity.com/rss/196/335.html

Changes in PSA over time aid prostate cancer detection

European Urology article discusses results from large study.
Read full story... | Send to a friend

http://www.bizcommunity.com/rss/196/335.html

Green tea holds hope for prevention of oral cancer

Green tea extract has shown promise as cancer prevention agent for oral cancer in patients with a pre-malignant condition known as oral leukoplakia, according to researchers at The University of Texas M. New study results demonstrate high success rates using specialized white blood cells to prevent or treat lymphoma associated with the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV-lymphoma) in patients who have received a haematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT). This study was pre-published online today in Blood, the official journal of the American Society of Hematology.
Read full story... | Send to a friend

http://www.bizcommunity.com/rss/196/335.html

Early diagnosis of breast cancer is crucial

Being told you have cancer is a frightening experience. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women - 1 in 29 South African women will be diagnosed with it in their lifetime. In ‘Westernised' communities the incidence increases to 1 in 8 and if you have a close relative who had breast cancer, the risk increases to 1 in 6. With the economic upliftment of our population, the overall population risk will also increase. October is Breast Health Awareness Month and women throughout the world are looking at ways to reduce the risk of getting breast cancer and diagnosing it early to optimise treatment.
Read full story... | Send to a friend

http://www.bizcommunity.com/rss/196/335.html
