Local artists pay tribute to Jackson

Cape Town radio station Heart 104.9FM in association with GrandWest Casino and Sony together with eight local icons will be hosting a memorial concert to pay tribute to the life of Michael Jackson on Wednesday, 1 July 2009 at the GrandWest Market Hall. The concert is in answer to the many local Jackson fans in search of a place where they can gather to mourn their loss. Around the globe fans searched for locations where they can gather to grieve loss of their icon. Over the past couple of days the Jackson family home, the hospital where he died and even the old home where they Jackson Five originated from, were all turned into shrines, packed with thousands of mourning fans. The Michael Jackson memorial concert will give Capetonians an opportunity to mourn the loss of the music legend and to say their goodbyes.

ICASA's CCC stance on ‘blacklisting' complaint astounds FXI

The Freedom of Expression Institute's (FXI) acting executive director, Melissa Moore issued a statement yesterday, 30 June 2009, in which she says the organisation is deeply disappointed and astounded by the Complaints and Compliance Committee of Independent Communication Authority of South Africa's (CCC) decision not to deal with the wrongdoings of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) in respect of the “blacklisting controversy”.

NEWSWATCH: Michael Jackson died yesterday, Thursday, 25 June 2009 at his home in Los Angeles, apparently of a heart attack - but city medical authorities have scheduled an autopsy for today and say the cause of death may only be confirmed in weeks, reports IOL Tonight. ICASA says no to intervention in copyright disputes

The Independent Communications Authority of SA (ICASA) will not intervene in copyright laws in favour of the independent TV production sector, according to a position paper it released recently. A key issue for independent producers is that copyright vests with the broadcaster who has commissioned the work, rather than the creators of the programme.
