Go bold or bald with 9th annual CANSA Shavathon

The Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) is gearing up for its 9th annual Shavathon, which takes place from 1 - 4 March 2012. Last year, the initiative raised R7.1 million with the help of volunteers at 250 shopping centres and 220 workplaces.

CSI Conference in North West for grant makers, NPOs

CSI Golaganyang, a two-day conference to be held at the Madiba Halls in Potchefstroom on 14-15 March 2012, will have as its focus 'Unite in Social Change'. An estimated 100 grant makers and approximately 300 non-profit institutions are expected to attend.

Million pens to aid school kids

BiC has committed to donating at least one million pens to disadvantaged learners in March 2012, via its 'Choose BiC and Change a Future' campaign, which has over 20 different products carrying a campaign sticker. Each time one of these packs is sold, the company donates a pen to a disadvantaged child. The READ Educational Trust will distribute the pens to more than 200 000 schools.

Peninsula School Feeding Association gets Tuffy support

Tuffy is partnering with the Peninsula School Feeding Association (PFSA), which aims to combat short-term hunger in schoolchildren and in doing so promote their learning and potential. The organisation was established in 1958 and over the past 53 years has provided 1.3-billion meals to children in need.

Deutsche Bank Urban Age Award offers Cape Town opportunities

The fifth international Deutsche Bank Urban Age Award, worth R750 000, has opened for entries from projects based in the Cape Town metropolitan area that meet the criterion of benefiting urban communities and local residents by improving their urban environments. Entries close at 4pm on 24 February 2012 and the award will be presented on 19 April, in Cape Town.

Cracking good Christmas for V&A

Click to enlargeA large Christmas cracker, measuring 1.5 by 6 metres, has been positioned at the Wheel of Excellence at the V&A Waterfront to encourage visitors to bring along toys, which they can donate by placing them through a shoebox-sized slot in the cracker. All the toys collected will be donated to the Tehillah Community Centre in Elsies River.
