Blue monuments for World Diabetes Day

The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) has called on all countries to mark World Diabetes Day (Saturday 14 November 2009) and increase diabetes awareness by lighting monuments around the world in blue - the colour of the blue circle, the global symbol for diabetes.

NDA, lottery highly inefficient in disbursing funds

Kellogg's supports breast cancer group Pink Link

Charity begins at home with Unilever, Team SA

On Wednesday 28 October 2009, 350 underprivileged children from the Kgosi Neighbourhood Foundation (KNF) Wings of Hope School were treated to an afternoon complete with lunch, a cupcake making lesson and a special talk on what it means to be a chef. It was given by members of the South African National Culinary Team (Team SA) as part of a charity drive initiated by Unilever Foodsolutions.

Soapies, sex and social responsibility

When the HIV/AIDS and the Media Project asked me to facilitate a workshop on sex and HIV in South African soap operas earlier this month, one of the directing team on Rhythm City, where I am head writer, volunteered that she's tired of listening to radio chat shows where people blamed perceived moral decay on the influence of soap operas. She thought that people who held that view didn't actually watch soaps themselves.
