Community TV channels to be chopped?

NEWSWATCH: It looks like a number of community TV stations around the country will be forced to shut down if the experience of Cape Town's CTV is anything to go by, reports IOL, which also reports that the head of the SABC's formal education unit has died, apparently as a result of a domestic dispute. On the 2010 front, it seems some of FIFA's conditions governing the media and their coverage of the event have not gone down well, reports Business Day.

The SABC has responded to the The Star newspaper article ‘SABC's R400m 2010 ruse', refuting allegations in the article that the corporation has used the World Cup as a means to avoid an interdict aimed at overturning a questionable R400 million contract, and that the SABC does not have a broadcast contract with FIFA.

Offsetting 2010 impacts

A sustainable initiative - My Tree in Africa - has been launched to give travellers the chance to offset the carbon impact of their flights and do some good in our communities. In time for the anticipated surge of visitors to South Africa next year, My Tree in Africa will plant trees in underprivileged communities to provide shade and fruit, as well as sink the flight-associated carbon emissions.
