Namibian Information Communication Bill reintroduced in Parliament

Namibia's Ministry of Information and Communication Technology has gazetted the Information Communications Bill. Speaking in Parliament in early June 2009 when the Bill was reintroduced, Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Joel Kaapanda says the Bill, "will revolutionise the ICT industry of Namibia and provide for the effective regulation of telecommunications, broadcasting, and postal services through a new independent and autonomous regulatory authority for Namibia".

NBC director-general dismissed

WINDHOEK: MISA has expressed concern on recent developments at the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) resulting in the dismissal of the director-general, Bob Kandetu. The dismissal of Kandetu follows among other issues, the controversy over the appearance of an opposition party flag after the President's national address at the end of 2008.

The Namibian Chapter of the Media Institute of Southern Africa, MISA-Namibia, has come out strongly against the decision by the Polytechnic of Namibia issuing a decree that its premises are a "no-go" area for journalists covering student events.

CNN Multichoice African Journalist 2008 finalists

Finalists in the prestigious CNN MultiChoice African Journalist 2008 Competition were announced today, 15 May 2008, by Azubuike Ishiekwene, Chair of the independent judging panel. This year the competition, now in its 13th year, received a record 1912 entries from 44 countries throughout the African continent, including French- and Portuguese-speaking Africa.
