WTC Africa Initiative and Italy join hands in trade

Following a trade agreement reached between the World Trade Center Africa Initiative and Italy, business between Africa and Europe is set to receive a significant boost. The agreement will see business leaders from 12 African countries meet their Italian counterparts in on-site deal rooms next year, at the inaugural Afritalia Commerce Exchange.

Convergence Africa to be launched

Legatum, a private international investment group, and Omidyar Network, a philanthropic investment firm, announced the launch of Convergence Africa, a one-day conference aimed at bringing together entrepreneurs, investors, policy-makers and businesspeople who will drive Africa's growth. The conference will take place on 8 December 2011 at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre in Nairobi, Kenya.

Africa's housing crisis: conference outlines remedies

Despite having 3% of the population earning an income viable for mortgage and 10.8% earning between US$10-20 per day, the UN Habitat says about 40.3% of Africans still live in slums. Inadequate and overcrowded dwellings, mostly without clean water, electricity and proper sanitation, line the streets of major cities as the population grows, banks close their doors on the poor and corruption infests the housing sector.

Internet governance in Southern Africa has taken a giant leap forward as South Africa teams up with NEPAD and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to launch the Southern African Internet Governance Forum (SAIGF), the first of its kind in a region populated by more than 260 million people. The three-day conference launch kicked off yesterday, Thursday, 1 September 2011, at the Hilton Hotel in Johannesburg, South Africa.
