It's a busy time ahead for the team this week, with half off to the 30th anniversary of The Loerie Awards in Margate for the four-day festival weekend 25 - 28 July 2008. Assistant editor Simone Puterman will be heading up the team on the ground, as yours truly will be jetting off to the States tomorrow to present at the American business editors annual conference in Kansas City this week. I'll be reporting from there and presenting on B2B publishing opportunities in Africa. The annual ‘Big 7' retail trade expo is also on at Gallagher Estate in Midrand at present (20 - 22 July) - visit our FMCG retail portal team there, and then there is the excellent research-rich conference, FutureFact on 24 July and the 2010 partnership conference 29 - 30 July. The deadline is fast approaching, too, for the annual Magazine Publishers' Association of SA PICA Awards for excellence in magazine publishing and journalism. Publishers' input in the past year on the revamped PICA/Mondi awards has been taken on board and there are some new categories, particularly on the B2B side.

Au revoir! Louise Marsland, editor: editor@bizcommunity.com. All marketing news to: marketingnews@bizcommunity.com. Responses to this column welcomed in our new online editor's column archive or on our blog: http://blog.bizcommunity.com.

LG sponsors crime line
Consumer goods manufacturer LG Electronics South Africa has partnered with Primedia's Crime Line, an anti-crime campaign endorsed by the South African Police Service, to support the fight against crime in South Africa. The Crime Line road show is aimed at educating high school children that life's good without crime, with Primedia's Talk Radio 702 and 94.7 Highveld Stereo inviting high schools in Gauteng to participate in the road show campaign.

SuperSport's Olympic plans
The Olympic Games, as much about entertainment as they are about sport, begin on 8 August 2008 and SuperSport on DStv will be there to bring subscribers all the action from Beijing 2008. SuperSport's multi-channeled coverage starts with the opening ceremony from the National Stadium in Beijing at 2pm (on SuperSport 5, 6 and 7/10) through to the closing ceremony on Sunday, August 24, again at 2pm on the same three channels.

No more fighting over the remote?
MultiChoice earlier this week launched an enhanced version of Dual View, which provides a more cost effective and flexible viewing option of its pay TV offering in the home. XtraView is delivered through linking two decoders and allows the subscriber to add and link a decoder to another one as and when is required.

SABC Africa, Multichoice part ways
As of 1 August 2008, SABC Africa will no longer be available on the DStv bouquet. The SABC released a statement yesterday, Monday, 14 July 2008, stating that negotiations between Multichoice and the public broadcaster had not yielded results, hence the discontinuation of the channel on DStv.

Pasella presenter moving on
After six years, presenter Charlene Truter will take her bow on SABC2' weekly magazine show Pasella for the last time on 23 July 2008. She will be pursuing her music and singing career, as well as the Rawsonville fair trade-project. “Although the Pasella-team will greatly miss Charlene, we respect her decision and wish her only the best with her new career,” says Pasella producer Amor Engelbrecht.
