Ruth Cooper's profile on Bizcommunity

Ruth is the production manager at Bizcommunity, as well as a contributor to the entertainment section in the BizLounge.
Mothertukking adventures in 3 Wheels

[Ruth Cooper] "A tuk tuk is a magical mode of transport for normal people"; in this case slightly abnormal people for one must be slightly cooked to enter the Lanka Challenge, which has entrants embark on a madcap adventure in a tuk tuk across Sri Lanka. Think a sort of low-budget, but far more fun, Amazing Race (free from annoying, bickering Americans). 3 Wheels is a documentary of said race featuring Team Hallelujah Spaghetti, who entered the 2010 Lanka Challenge, came second last and documented the whole process.

You are not dead yet

[Ruth Cooper] P.H. Fat don't know much for sure, but they do know this: "You are going to die" and if you are reading this you are not dead yet, congratulations. Nothing to do with doomsday prophesies, the EP title "You Are Going to Die", off P.H. Fat's second musical offering ( hitting webs today) is rather an attempt at something truly honest and certain; a fact that we all know for sure.

Ode to Up The Creek

[Ruth Cooper] Up The Creek has been awarded a special place in my heart, perhaps because it coincides with my birthday, but even if this wasn't the case it would still garner the most love from me when compared to its younger music fest siblings. Anyone who has been lucky enough to venture the few hours' drive to Swellendam and floated down the Breede in a lilo's loving embrace will know what I mean. Free from pretention, corporate branding bombardments, hordes of teenage boys, howling gales and own-alcohol restriction areas, UTC blows all other CT fests out of their designated body of water, be it river, dam or creek.

Punk at heart

[Ruth Cooper] Punk arises in times of strife, when the status quo needs a serious kick in the crotch and a spit in the face; not surprising then that there was a small, but dedicated, group of punk rockers playing in southern Africa at the height of the apartheid madness in the 70s and 80s. Daring life and "freedom" to question and protest the unjust system.

Jack Parow 's "Eksie Ou", track by track

[Ruth Cooper] Packed with colabs from the likes of David Kramer, Pierre Greeff, Francois van Coke and PH Fat, one wouldn't be wrong in expecting Jack Parow's second album to have a fairly diverse sound. However, as diverse as the 12 tracks on this album are, each one is still unquestionably and uber recognisably Jack moeder fokken Parow.

An inspiring "Inscape"

[Ruth Cooper] "Inscape" is a very apt title for Isochronous' second full-length album. It really does suck you in, with a gulping breath and submerge you into their pretty world. An escape inwards to that Isochronous landscape habituated by rumbling drum mountains, towering guitar trees, rushing and tinkling piano rivers and the beautifully pure chirpings of nightingales.

The Party Animal Revolution

[Ruth Cooper] "Four legs good, two legs bad!" chants a man in a wrestler's mask with a speaker phone in hand. In the other hand is a chain attached to an evil-looking pig standing on his hind legs in a snappy suit; some call him Mr Pig, some call him Deadpi9. A busk of Mr Pig stares at us from his vantage point at the top centre of the stage, his head nestled amongst barbed wire, his red eyes glowing malevolently, hypnotising his audience, his followers. This is Deadpi9 vs the rest. This is Animal Farm. This is Balkanology.

Cool as Folk, green with goodwill

[Ruth Cooper] Happy hippy vibes were blossoming abundantly at Greenpop's third Cool as Folk party last weekend at Assembly. To be honest I don't think I have encountered such a friendly crowd before at the usually more cliquey Assembly, but it seems as if getting together for a good cause brings out the hug a stranger side of folks. As it should.

Ruth Cooper commented on Black Rebel Motorcycle Club to headline Synergy Live
Whoops, sorry about that, it has been amended (press release kept on referring to them as Black Rebel Motor Cycle.)
