Brenda Martin is CEO of the South African Wind Energy Association (SAWEA). Martin has worked at senior level in the education, political science, sustainability and energy policy sectors in South Africa over the past 18 years. Between 2007 and 2014 she played a leading role in the successful establishment of cross-sectoral civil society networks in South Africa - on climate change, energy and electricity.
More recently she has conducted commissioned research on energy policy and planning, particularly relating to renewable energy and nuclear power policies, and provided strategic policy advice.
She has an MPhil in Energy & Development (ERC, UCT). Her dissertation analysed the politics of electricity planning, particularly as this relates to nuclear power and renewable energy. Martin has a strong track record as a trusted bridge builder across sectors, a thoughtful participant in and leader of effective teams, a fundraiser, network builder and grounded strategic thinker.
A seasoned energy policy practitioner, she has proactively refreshed her knowledge of contemporary energy-related issues: the SA energy transition, strategic planning and organisational development, climate science, electricity supply, policy governance, and renewable energy implementation.
