Brehndan Botha commented on Facilitate a movement: the shift from mass marketing
It's more than just being nimble and agile. It's about being fed into the touchpoints (and behaviours) of the market; then being hungry enough to make real connections, not just page impressions or ARs.

Brehndan Botha commented on Why do media buyers/strategists and PR & marketing agencies ignore community media??
In my experience, media and PR agencies find that to be too much hard work. It's easier to work with the media marketing agencies/groups like Radmark, SABC, etc... because they can produce reach and frequency reports at the drop of a hat for a wide range of titles and programmes in their stable at the push of a button. To work with a range of independent stations and titles requires more time on the phone, more relationships to manage and more data to crunch and collate. In short, too much hard work for something that clients don't cover the hours for, but expect anyway. Wrong in terms of proper communication strategy, but sadly true.

Brehndan Botha commented on What does the future agency look like? (part II)
Well thought and well written. Would you hazard a thought on the future of creativity? Arguably the demise of art for the sake of art and more about the strategic use of creativity...?

Brehndan Botha commented on Spam opt-out the way we want it
I have no confidence in DMASA managing this. They have huge issues in managing their own members' activities against their current Do Not Contact Database / Opt-Out Registry; I don't see how they could have the muscle to manage a non-members' database, as well. Anti-Spam opt-out should, however, also extend to phone calls and text messages.

Brehndan Botha commented on The great business/marketing/advertising disconnect
It's a dual-edged sword: Marketing Managers need to be on top of their strategy (your point about connecting with the customer) and ad agencies need to be less about the creative holy grail and more about the business. If ad agencies really want to be business partners, they need to act like a business partner not tempremental artists.

Nice concept that marries brand-building with product messaging and ideal customer response. It works. Hard. I love the little girl's inviting line at the end: "I'm hungry..."

:-) to KFC.

Brehndan Botha commented on ANC gets what it deserves in Independent Newspapers
Two points:
First, you do realise that your headline is as sensationalist a challenge to balanced reporting as that of which you are accusing Independent Newspapers?
Second, acknowledging that any news story is influenced by political or financial agendas calls into question the credibility of media and its journalistic corps everywhere and just clearly illustrates that the media fraternity can't be relied upon to maintain the credibility of press freedom they so vociferously lay claim to...

Brehndan Botha commented on Brands on social media: adding value or not?
Bottom line is that businesses need to first understand their purpose and their business objectives, then interpret how that is relevant to their (current or intended) customers before they can consider any kind of marketing strategy. "Sell product/brand to consumer" is not a marketing strategy. Unless a product or brand is relevant to a customer or consumer group, it has not business being in their social space.
