What a final!

[Corné Krige] I have said this a couple of times, but I am going to say it again. A week in rugby is a long time! I did predict a week ago that the All Blacks would be crowned world champions, but that is just about the only thing I predicted correctly. I really felt that it would be a one-sided final and that the All Blacks would win comfortably by no less than 14 points.

New Zealand to be crowned World Champions!

[Corné Krige] Yes, you did read correctly! I am a week early, but I am 100 percent sure that the All Blacks will win the World Cup for the first time since 1987 when they also played the French on home soil. The French were extremely lucky to get past a 14-man Welsh team who really played their hearts out. The Dragons were dealt a very cruel blow when their captain, Sam Warburton, was shown a red card in the 10th minute of the game.

Bok tragedy!

[Corné Krige] I am only 36 years old, but one of the many valuable lessons I have learned is that life isn't fair. Sometimes you get things when you don't deserve them and other times when you absolutely deserve it then you don't get it. This was the case on Sunday morning when the Springboks played Australia in Wellington, New Zealand.

RWC 2011 - it's showtime!

[Corné Krige] What an incredible week in World Cup rugby. The competition really was set alight by shocking news and phenomenal games. The shocking news is that New Zealand's match winner Dan Carter will take no further part in the World Cup.

Bok massacre

[Corné Krige] Sometimes you need to get through tough times to gain confidence and win tournaments. I think back to the Wales game, which was the first game for the Boks, and I can't help but think that was a very important moment for the Springboks. They came through that game and this weekend they absolutely destroyed a very brave Namibian team.

Brilliant Boks!

[Corné Krige] The World Cup is always a great occasion and never seizes to amaze all rugby supporters around the world. The first two rounds were somewhat predictable with the giants of world rugby lined up against the tier-two nations, like Georgia, Namibia and Japan. Even though these teams did very well against their far superior opposition, the outcomes were somewhat predictable.

Year of the minnows!

[Corné Krige] The first round of World Cup games is now over and what an exciting round of rugby it was. There was probably only one runaway game and that was the opening game between host country New Zealand and Tonga, and that scoreline was flattering to the All Blacks. The rest of the games were all really tight affairs and the so-called minnows all ran their more favoured opponents close. The two outstanding performers for me were Romania and Japan.

What a send off!

[Corné Krige] I was in Livingstone on Thursday and switched on the TV for the official send off for the Springboks. I have to admit that I got goosebumps when I saw how many people had turned out to show their support for the Boks. I have always been proud to be South African, but that amount of support really took my patriotism to another level. I tried to remember what our farewell was like in 2003 and my memories were very vague. This confirms my suspicion that it was nothing like what we saw last Thursday in Sandton.

All Blacks throw down the gauntlet

[Corné Krige] The game between New Zealand and Australia was touted as a possible forerunner of the World Cup Final due to happen on 22 October. New Zealand and Australia seem like two genuine title contenders and, after they had both demolished the Springboks, this match would be a real indication of whether New Zealand could handle the pressure of playing and winning a World Cup on home soil.

Problems down under

[Corné Krige] I had the privilege of playing in the inaugural Investec jag Invitational Golf Day at Legend Golf Course this past weekend. It really is an amazing place with a beautiful golf course. The extreme 19th hole is on top of a mountain and only accessible by helicopter. What an incredible par three. It is 400 metres long and 400 metres below the mountain. The green is in the shape of Africa and very hard to hit.
