As a film and theatre lover, I can be as skeptical as the next person when it comes to critics' reviews. They represent individual opinions, educated or otherwise, and at the end of the day, people should make up their own minds. Senior principal dancers Megan Swart and Robin van Wyk are the winners of the main category of the Friends at Cape Town City Ballet Balletomanes Awards. Established in 1976, the awards are presented in recognition of outstanding artistic endeavours, and in appreciation of the hours of pleasure afforded throughout the year to members of the society. It's the first South African Improvisation Meeting (SAIM) comprising workshops, now under way at the UCT School of Dance, facilitated by some of the leading exponents of this art: Kirstie Simson (Chicago) and Bo Madvig (Denmark). iKapa Dance Theatre has pulled off an ambitious full-length performance of Andile Sotiya's Stadium with great aplomb, which the opening night audience at Cape Town's Artscape Theatre gave due credit.
