Andrea le Sueur was born in Harare, Zimbabwe and has lived in Cape Town for most of her life. She graduated with a BA degree majoring in English and Communication (UNISA) in 1980.

Her background as a professional writer is in the field of below-the-line copywriting in which she has operated a successful freelance practice on and off since the 1990s. Her association with the Folio Group dates right back to these early days and she is honoured to have had the company as a client ever since.

Prior to this, she had three years' experience working for a public relations consultancy specialising in the wine industry, four years in bookselling with Exclusive Books and a year at Cosmopolitan<.i> magazine as a sub-editor.

She has had several full-length plays produced by the SAfm Drama Department for the Saturday Play slot. In collaboration with two other writers she conceptualised a courtroom drama series for radio, entitled Justice Prevails. For this, she has contributed eight half-hour episodes across two series. She adapted Ahmed Essop's short story Two Sisters for Bush Radio's season of drama in summer 2005. In 2003, she was a member of a freelance team writing comic sketches for the TV series FourPlay which were filmed live at the Waterfront in Cape Town.

Andrea's other great interest is graphology (handwriting analysis), in which field she is a qualified professional. A graphological analysis provides unique insights into human psychology and as such is of interest to human resources and counselling professionals, as well as individuals seeking greater self-understanding.

She has lived with her partner, Chris Eckard, in Hout Bay for two decades. Members of their family include Shado, a black cat with a white spot on her chest and Eddie, a tame raven who has escaped from captivity and now lives in a large pine tree in the garden.
