Airtel Nigeria awarded CSR award

Telecommunications services provider, Airtel Nigeria has been awarded a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) award for its pioneering role in the delivery of quality education to underprivileged children in the country.

According to advocacy and communications group, AS+A Communications, Airtel Nigeria has consistently maintained a single-minded focus in initiating a robust CSR programme that has transformed the lives of several under-privileged children in Nigeria.

The group honoured Airtel with a CSR awards for Excellence & Exhibition, stating that the telecommunications operator has been providing important support for the improvement of the educational sector as well as empowering children from poor homes with quality education.

At an event held in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, recently, the organisers of the event said Airtel took a significant step last year, when it launched its Adopt-a-School programme and, in record time, completed and commissioned its first adopted School, Oremeji Primary School 2 in Ajegunle, a district in Lagos.

Airtel urged to continue doing good

At the event, managing director of AS+A Communications, Adenike Shobayo thanked Airtel for rendering invaluable assistance to under privileged children, urging the operator to continue in its quest to providing quality education for more Nigerian children.

"While we note Airtel's significant contribution to the educational sector especially with the recent commissioning of Oremeji Primary School 2, we urge other companies to follow in their footsteps in partnering the relevant governmental authorities for the delivery of quality education to our children. Airtel has done extremely well in the area of education and have also taken some bold steps to give back to the Nigerian society. They really deserve to be commended for their fine works," she said.

Commenting on the award, managing director and CEO of Airtel Nigeria, Rajan Swaroop said the company has a single-minded strategy of creating educational opportunities for under-privileged children across the country.

Speaking further of the award, Swaroop who was represented by the regional operations director: South Region, Godfrey Efeurhobo said, "This is another positive development and it lends credence to our commitment towards contributing to the realisation of a sustainable society. This is also a testimony to the fact that Nigerians are forming a closer bond with the Airtel brand. We will continue to strive in excellence as we seek to realise our vision of becoming the most loved brand in the daily lives of Nigerians".

Chairman of Airtel Nigeria, Oba Otudeko together with Swaroop, was also honored with Awards of Excellence for their contributions to the society through the creation of value with innovative technologies, products and services.
