MTN Business Zambia to support SOS Children's Village

MTN Business Zambia has engaged in a sponsorship with the SOS Children's Village - an international non-governmental child welfare organisation, whose main objective is to provide long-term family care to children in need of care.

"MTN Business is committed to the community in which we operate and we are certainly excited and proud to be able to assist the orphanage with the monthly basic necessities budget for House 1 at the main village in Lusaka," said Patrick Ndegwa, country manager at MTN Business Zambia. "In addition to this monetary investment for 2011, we have - and will continue to - donate office furniture and equipment to the orphanage for use where necessary."

SOS Children's Village takes action for children and work in the spirit of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. SOS Children's Village is operational in 133 countries and territories worldwide.The first village opened in Lusaka the capital city of Zambia in 1999, the second village opened in Kitwe on the Copperbelt province in 2004, with the third village in Livingstone-Southern province in October, 2008.

"ICT has a big role to play in the future of urban and rural education and if we can get ICT into these regions, we will be able to deliver a far better quality of education, and to a much larger number of people. But we first need to get the basics right. With a vision to ensure that every child belongs to a family and grows with love, respect and security, contributing to the orphanage is the first crucial step to opening up a through-road to achieving this," concludes Ndegwa.
