Vodacom pledges support to media profession

Vodacom Tanzania has pledged to continue supporting various media platforms to increase media competence in the country.

Speaking during a Capital Plus International Limited (CPI) organised media seminar in Dar es Salaam over the weekend, Vodacom Tanzania head of Communication and Marketing, Kelvin Twisa said his company appreciates the role of media in the country's development process.

"Vodacom Tanzania believes on dissemination of accurate information to catalyse investments throughout the country. Tanzania has many resources still unexploited," said Twisa at the seminar under the theme rebranding and restoration of media image in Tanzania.

Seasoned journalist and University of Dar es Salaam's (UDSM) lecturer, Ayub Rioba cautioned the media to stick to ethics if they have to restore their status as the fourth estate. "The media is so vital in any democratic system...my plea to you is to stick to the journalism ethics and disseminate information without favour or fear," said Dr Rioba.

CPI PR and Events Manager, Mathew Kasonta said his company will continue organising such platforms to raise journalism competence among professionals. Vodacom, Standard Chartered Bank, National Microfinanace Bank, Precision Air and Serena Hotel Dar es Salaam sponsored the two-day seminar that brought together some 50 media owners and over 100 media practitioners.
