Daily Maverick, iMaverick conference date change

Daily Maverick and iMaverick's annual conference, The Gathering, has had a change of date in order to accommodate parliament's schedule. The conference will now take place on 23 November 2012 at Johannesburg's Victory Theatre from 8.30am-5.30pm.

First held two years ago, The Gathering has reportedly attracted some of the strongest voices in politics, business and media. The event will include political heavy weight speakers such as Zwelinzima Vavi, Thuli Madonsela, Lindiwe Mazibuko and Jay Naidoo as well as controversial debates and panel discussions.

"We have the biggest role players in South African society speaking at the event, and are honoured to stage an event which we hope will contribute to the national discourse during this time" says CEO, Styli Charalambous.

Other speakers will include Gwede Mantashe, Mark Heywood and Greg Marinovich, all of whom will be covering key issues against the backdrop of the ANC national conference in Mangaung. In total, 12 high profile speakers will combine individual addresses and panel discussions at the event.

"In true Maverick style, we will be keeping the format fresh with the emceeing skills of John Vlismas and various analyst panels that will include Daily Maverick journalists," says Charalambous. "We don't simply want this to be a series of long drawn-out lectures, but rather something that will keep the audience and those following on social media enthralled throughout the day with short, sharp and locally relevant addresses by the speakers. I think the event achieved that in the past and will do so again with the new format changes."
