Ministry bids farewell to GCIS CEO

The Ministry in the Presidency for Performance Monitoring and Evaluation has announced the expiry of the contract of the Chief Executive Officer of the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) and Cabinet spokesperson, Jimmy Manyi.

Manyi left his position on 25 August 2012 after serving his full three-year contract.

He joined the GCIS in February 2011 from the Department of Labour where he was transferred to complete the rest of his contract as Director General in the public service.

"He brought with him a wealth of experience, from both the public and the private sector, to this position. Manyi has done sterling work in this position communicating decisions of Cabinet and government policy to the media and the country," said the Presidency in a statement.

Minister in the Presidency for Performance Monitoring and Evaluation, Collins Chabane, wished Manyi well with his future endeavours either in the private or public sector.

"Jimmy Manyi was very instrumental in communicating government programmes, particularly the five priorities of government to the people of South Africa. He has made a good contribution to government communication and Cabinet communication processes.

"On behalf of the President, Cabinet and government, I would like to thank Manyi for his contribution to government communication," said Chabane.

In Manyi's absence, Chabane has appointed Phumla Williams, Deputy Chief Executive Officer: Cooperate Services, as the acting CEO until the position has been filled.

"The ministry wishes Williams well in discharging her responsibilities," said Chabane.

He said the position of the CEO will be advertised and filled after a suitable candidate has been found.
