MTV Base VJ search in Nigeria kicks off

The three-part TV series focuses on the hunt for a brand new VJ (Video Jockey or TV presenter) for music channel MTV Base (DStv Channel 322).

Seven years after Cynthia "C-Von" Okpala became MTV Base's first Nigerian VJ, the appointment of MTV Base's newest VJ wannabe is just three weeks away. Episode one of the MTV Base VJ Search - Nigeria follows a host of wannabes as they make their bid for fame and fortune. Highlights of the programme will include footage of the candidates as they go through the audition process. For a bit of fun, MTV Base put Nigerian stars Banky W, Basketmouth, Funke Akindele and Brymo through their audition paces too...

The concept of a "VJ" or "video jockey" was created by MTV and revealed to the world on 1 August 1981 when MTV first switched on in the USA. Only the most talented individuals all over the world have since borne the prestigious title of "MTV VJ". Famous VJs through the years include Carson Daly, Daisy Fuentes, Trevor Nelson, Vanessa Mannillo, Jenny McCarthy and Sway - not to mention South Africa's Sizwe Dhlomo and Nigeria's Cynthia Okpala.

"MTV Base VJ Search - Nigeria" premieres on MTV Base (DStv Channel 322) at 19:30 CAT on Tuesday, 15 January.
