Sean Woods wins Siemens Profile Award for second time
His winning feature, entitled 'Burn it Up', examined the practice of trapping methane gas at municipal dumps and converting it to electricity or carbon credits.
"For me, science and technology journalism is such a stimulating beat, I really can't imagine myself doing anything else," commented Woods. "It is gratifying to have one's efforts recognised beyond the magazine and I'm very proud to be included in this year's group of worthy winners."
He received the award from the Minister of Science and Technology, Derek Hanekom, and Siemens' executive director Alex Mathole, at an awards dinner at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, Cape Town, earlier this week.
No stranger
Woods is no stranger to writing honours. He was overall winner of the Profile Awards in 2008 - a prize that earned him a trip to Germany - and in 2009 won a Pica and was named Best Profile Writer of the Year.
His award is particularly relevant in light of the inaugural 'Sustain our Africa' summit and expo, co-sponsored by Siemens, which coincided with the Profile Awards 2012 awards.
Established in 2001, the Siemens Profile Awards aim to encourage writers in the fields of science and technology, stressing the need to demystify these subjects and make them accessible to all.
