Photojournalism course opens for 2012 students

The Photojournalism and Documentary Photography Programme (PDP), to be held at the Market Photo Workshop in Johannesburg in January 2012, is open for registration until 19 August 2011. The aim is to facililate African photojournalists and documentary photographers in developing both technical skills and the ability to think critically about the world around them.

The course is run with the support of Getty Images, the Open Society Foundation for South Africa and the Open Society Institute and offers training in various photographic disciplines to enable students to produce comprehensive portfolios (comprising hard news, general news, portraits, features, sports/action images and conceptual photographs) and extended documentary essays.

Students also intern with media houses and other organisations and work on projects that enlarge their awareness of social and economic challenges.

Applications can be emailed to Bekie Ntini, az.oc.pohskrowotohptekram@neikeb and must comprise of a 300-word motivation indicating why the candidate is suitable for the PDP, with cover letter; a portfolio including 10-15 captioned images (JPEG format, 72 dpi) and a detailed CV with a full range of contact details (e-mail, phone numbers, address).
