Caturra coffee brand extends its reach in Africa

Caturra, South African roaster of high quality coffee and supplier of superior equipment and coffee beans to the corporate and retail as well as hospitality, restaurant and catering industries in sub-Saharan and West Africa, has extended its reach into new markets across the African continent.

Through the partnership with Lonrho Hotels, guests can enjoy their perfect cup of coffee at any hotel belonging to the group in Botswana, DRC, Mozambique and Zimbabwe.

Based on an assessment of the hot beverage requirements of each hotel, Caturra proposed a tailor-made solution to Lonrho Hotels, saving them approximately 40% of their capital investment. This has resulted in securing Lonrho's hot beverage tender, which includes the planning and the supply of a complete hot beverage solution.

Authenticity in a cup

"We promise our guests quality and authenticity in a cup. Lonrho Hotels selected Caturra as our coffee supplier for our hotels and Espretto coffee brand after concluding that Caturra shares the same values and passion for African coffees and teas. Their unrivalled coffee knowledge, roasting expertise and relentless pursuit of the perfect cup wherever a Lonrho guest may wish to enjoy a coffee, is why our supply contract with Caturra is successful," explains Ewan Cameron, Lonrho Hotels CEO.

In addition to the offices in Namibia and Botswana, Caturra has established a new office in Zimbabwe. "The growing demand for our coffee and services in this new market has resulted in the appointment of a fully trained agent in Zimbabwe. This will ensure that the client enjoys peace of mind as one company is available around the clock for call-outs and on-site services," says Klaus Becker, Caturra managing director.

Horeca, the in-room solution

"Furthermore we are very excited that we have acquired our recent Horeca trade client, the local Holiday Inn destinations within the global hotel group Holiday Inn Hotels & Resorts. We have recommended a hot beverage in-room solution and the required bulk brewing equipment to them," Becker concludes.

The hotels within the Horeca industry are classified into three, according to their clientèle and services. Caturra provides tailor-made solutions for each within the following spectrums:

  • Business hotels, with a focus on business travellers and corporate services such as conferencing, require a solution based on breakfast coffees and the accompanying products. Examples of such hotels are those within the Holiday Inn Hotels & Resorts group.
  • Luxury leisure hotels such as the Twelve Apostles Hotel & Spa offering bespoke personal service and gourmet fine dining, need coffee and 24-hour quality service to match this standard.
  • Boutique hotels and luxury lodges, usually situated remotely, for example Ulusaba, Sir Richard Branson's Private Game Reserve on the border of the Kruger National Park and other game lodges that require 24-hour immaculate quality service.

Caturra's offering to the Horeca industry includes a diverse range of products, consisting of packaging and branding coffee for hotels, personalised room coffee caddies and java jackets. Since 1994, Caturra's core business lies in sourcing and locally roasting coffee not only for their own brand, but also for their Horeca clients, as well as the corporate and retail markets.
