MDDA gives notice to the end of term of office of Lumko Mtimde (outgoing CEO)

The MDDA Board gives notice of the end of the term of its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mr Lumko Mtimde and thanks him for his outstanding work as the accounting officer of the agency. Mtimde has been at the helm of the agency since 2006 and will be completing his second term of office in June 2014. He has opted not to avail himself for a third term of office, opting to rather consider taking on new responsibilities for his own growth and development. He has led with distinction the cause of media development and diversity and the promotion of the right to freedom of expression and access to information as enshrined in our constitution and has laid a solid foundation for anyone to lead the agency into the next decade.

Mr Mtimde's professionalism and efficiency enabled the MDDA to grow from strength to strength, as a new organisation and financially, becoming a leading and award winning organisation in respect of good governance. He understood the terms of the MDDA Act, its mandate and the industry at large. He has ensured the agency complied with all its obligations, including being exemplary whenever it appears before the presidency and parliament, in terms of both the MDDA Act and the PFMA Act. As a result, not only has the MDDA always received unqualified and clean audit reports under his stewardship, had successful achievements and congratulations remarks from all its principals, but the MDDA has always had and continues to enjoy a prosperous relationship with both the presidency and parliament. The leadership of Mr. Mtimde will be missed in the sector and we wish him well with whatever avenues he may explore in the future.

The agency takes this opportunity to thank and salute the outgoing CEO, Mr Mtimde for the sterling work done, hoping to continue counting on his support in the mammoth challenge of transforming and diversifying the media. The arduous task of finding a suitable successor continues.
