The Cape Consort is back

Heart/Attack features madrigals by Monteverdi, but extends the exploration of early Italian repertoire to include works by some of Monteverdi's contemporaries (Barbara Strozzi, Sigismondo d'India, Giovanni Sances, and others). The Renaissance poetry is also supported by synchronised and animated projections.

Historically informed renditions of early and unusual repertoire

The Cape Consort, a group of singers and period instrumentalists, presents historically informed renditions of early and unusual repertoire. Collaborating with the Early Music Forum Africa and the South African Early Music Trust, the group provides a platform for a variety of collaborations and performs to wide acclaim. (The performance at the Stellenbosch Woordfees earlier this year was awarded the Woordtrofee for best classical music production.)

This sequel of concerts also launches the Cape Consort's first CD ("Matrix Of The Madrigal"), which documents the group's first programme at the Fugard. Patrons will have the opportunity to meet the group on the theatre's rooftop deck after the shows.
