Search for SA’s Best Employer heats up

CRF International’s Best EmployersTM South Africa project is in full swing. Will Ernst & Young, ‘Best Company to Work For 2006 (7th Edition)’, take the prestigious Number 1 spot once again? Perhaps we’ll see one of the top 10 companies – SABMiller, Edgars, Standard Bank, Bidvest, BHP Billiton, Netcare, Microsoft, Sanlam, Coronation Fund Managers – muscle forward into pole position. Or will the coveted title of Best Employer 2007 be awarded to a new participating company?
We won’t know until July, but until then… it’s anyone’s prize.

Robust research, solid results
Just how will SA’s Best EmployersTM be determined?

Traditional methods typically employ research into employee sentiment or expert opinion to assess top employer brands; espousing these as adequate indicators of just how ‘good’ a company is as an employer.

Although both these tools are useful when used as part of the overall employer research process, they are largely considered to be too subjective and even emotionally volatile to really provide substantive proof of HR best practice and policy.

And this is precisely what makes Best EmployersTM South Africa the country’s most exciting employer-research project.

CRF International has, over the past two years, been working closely with locally-based Accenture to develop a scientific approach to employer research which provides definitive facts and figures used to rate overall company performance in HR.

The result? The even-handed, objective research survey called the HR BenchmarkTM.

The HR BenchmarkTM is the only product of its kind, providing crucial insight into overall HR policy and identifies both the strengths and weaknesses of the overall company HR function. This unique assessment facility allows for a benchmarking comparison to be drawn between individual company performance, the South African average and a hand-picked group of peers or even competitors.

Factored into the survey is employee sentiment, ethics and governance, diversity, the role of HR in the business, rewards and recognition practice, recruitment strategy among others. So comprehensive is the HR BenchmarkTM that is has been introduced across CRF’s global portfolio, which includes the UK, China, Spain, Germany, The Netherlands and Denmark.

Some 80 questions cover all aspects of corporate employment strategy which culminates in a definitive ranking of SA’s Top 10 employers, and the must-have employer showcase and talent-management guide, Best EmployersTM South Africa 2007
