 SMMEs are often perceived as being a more reliable reflection of economic growth. Because of their size, they tend to react quicker to market changes. At the end of June, Southern African respondents to the latest UFI barometer survey (June 2011) indicated that 52% expect their turnover to increase by more than 10% in the first six months of 2011 when compared with the first six months in 2010, increasing to 78% for the second half of 2011. Exhibition organisers are particularly buoyant in this regard with 86% indicating an increase in turn-over in the first six months this year. Yet this positive outlook is balanced with 75% indicating that the impact of the 'economic crisis' on the exhibition business is not yet over.
