“I really loved doing my canvas but better than that was seeing the amazing creations our staff produced,” says Ross Chowles, Executive Creative Director of Jupiter Cape Town, who came up with the idea to have a celebratory exhibition of all the artworks and raise money for a worthy cause at the same time. Thus, the Jupiter Exhibition of Hope was born.
“The Hope Canvas project was a great creative outlet for a good cause. I'm sure that everyone at Jupiter, who painted, stuck or scribbled something onto a canvas felt very proud to see their work exhibited. I certainly was,” comments Art Director, Yumna Sadan.
The artworks were on display at an event last Friday at The Book Lounge, a popular, independent bookshop that regularly hosts events. Mervyn Sloman, owner of The Book Lounge adds, “I was seriously impressed with the standard of the canvases produced by the Jupiter people and the fact that they wanted to use the process to raise money for SAMLA is just wonderful. I'm extremely grateful that Jupiter chose the Book Lounge to host the event.”
R10 000 was raised from the sales of the artworks and proceeds will be donated to SAMLA (South African Mobile Libraries Association) who run a mobile children's library in Guglethu.
