Jupiter puts on a one man show

The Jupiter Drawing Room (Cape Town), one of the most awarded design agencies in South Africa, has been awarded a Gold and Silver Pencil at the One Show Design Awards for 2007. Jupiter Cape Town is the only South African agency to win Gold and Silver pencils this year, with only 22 Gold pencils being awarded overall.
The glittering awards ceremony took place at the Chelsea Art Museum in New York City. This is the first time that the One Club has held a separate design awards ceremony.

Jupiter won a Gold pencil in the ‘Brand and Corporate ID Design' category for work done on their corporate identity, aptly titled, ‘Legends of The Jupiter Drawing Room'. Their Silver Pencil was awarded for the design work on the Firewise logo. They also qualified as a finalist for the Design Indaba ‘Interactive Africa' brainstorm poster.

Explaining the creative rationale behind the ‘Legends of The Jupiter Drawing Room' CI, Jupiter Cape Town's Creative Director, Joanne Thomas says: “The agency itself is modelled on a gentleman's drawing room, but is enhanced by an eclectic mix of modern elements and personal mementos left behind by ex-members. Our challenge was to develop a corporate identity that would entrench the agency's natural character and celebrate those qualities that differentiate it from any other in its category.”

This year, One Show and One Show Design has attracted over 17 000 entries from 64 countries around the world. Judged by an international panel of some of the world's top creatives, winning a One Show Pencil is considered of the ultimate achievements in the industry.
