Writers' Gym: Advanced writing skills training for corporate journalists

You've mastered the basics of corporate written communication, but the challenge still remains: how do you make corporate publications relevant for their particular niche markets, while making sure that they're vibrant - not dreary - organisational communication tools?
Building on the basics of business writing, this full-day workshop is geared for communicators writing for corporate publications and those who put together in-house newsletters. Participants will be coached on how to write for their particular markets, while learning how to transform often dry in-house material into vibrant organisational tools.

Good writing depends on so much more than just spelling and grammar. It's about finding real news angles to hook into, uncovering the human interest aspect in every story worth telling, and learning how to make words come alive.

From learning how to develop a keen ‘nose' for news - even within a corporate environment - to finding a story within the most complex or technical of issues, this highly practical programme to be conducted at client premises will also:
  • Provide participants with simple but effective methods to brainstorm ideas
  • Explore research techniques as a critical component in putting together good writing
  • Engage the art of insightful interviewing skills
  • Inject colour into copy
  • Discover the people behind the stories
  • Structure articles for maximum effect
  • Employ effective editing techniques

Participants will be asked to submit two examples of their writing for analysis in advance of the workshop.

You'll never make your mark as a writer unless you develop a respect for words and a curiosity about their shades of meaning.

Think differently and you will write differently!
