Edgars Club adds health care benefit and savings

South Africa's second largest retail club, Edgars Club, has recently launched a unique and innovative suite of health care benefits and savings accessible to Classic members as of 18 October 2006.
Set to be a key component of the Edgars Club Classic option, this new initiative aims to provide members with much needed savings on essential healthcare services, ranging from doctors' visits, dental checks, optometry, emergency room facility fees and maternity services.

Edgars Club joined forces with Netcare, as the largest hospital group in South Africa, and SDK Group of optometrists.

Ryan Noach, Netcare's chief executive officer describes the partnership as one that reaffirms the group's core values, "care for our patients, participation from our partners and passion for quality healthcare and professional excellence". Noah continues, "In addition, it also affords us a new distribution channel and an opportunity to attract and acquire new patients".

The healthcare suite consists of preferential and reduced benefits which Edgars Club Classic members can redeem from participating facilities. Benefits include:
  • Savings of up to R48 with a fixed fee for a GP consultation, including 3 items of medication at selected clinics
  • Free annual dental check-ups plus two X-rays valued at R160
  • Up to 20% saving on all major emergency room facility fees
  • Up to 30% off frames, sunglasses and contact lenses.
  • Preferential rates on a wide range of maternity services
The benefits will be marketed to the Clubs' one million members countrywide and are redeemable from participating Netcare Group companies. These include Medicross and Prime Cure Medi-Clinics, Netcare Hospital Emergency rooms, Storks' Nest Clinics in addition to Stanley & de Kock and Müllers Optometrists.

Edgars Club's strategic support partners, LifeWorld Relationship Management undertook the strategy development and negotiation of benefits which are the first of their kind in the current offering of customer clubs and loyalty programs. LifeWorld has been working with Edgars Club for over 4 years and has been involved in the strategic direction of the club in addition to negotiation and management of benefits

"We focused on basic needs that cut across all customer target markets and with the rising costs of health care in South Africa currently, we believe that these will be well received by members".

Edgars Club Classic members will be issued with a member benefit card built on sophisticated gift card technology supplied by Tutuka, in order to track and validate eligibility to redeem their benefits.

Participating Netcare and SDK Group facilities have also had new credit card terminals installed. These were supplied by listed Allied Technologies Ltd subsidiary Altech Card Solutions and customized by Tutuka which will allow for validation of memberships and track redemption of the health care benefits at the relevant benefit providers.
