The Association for Transformation in Film and Television (ATFT) is proud to announce its participation at this 'year's most anticipated global market for programming of all genres across all platforms', which takes place in Cannes, France, from the 13th to 16th October 2014. The MIPCOM trade mission is made possible by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)'s EMIA scheme and supported by the Gauteng Film Commission (GFC).
A delegation of South African filmmakers, which consists of emerging and mentoring producers, will embark on a trade mission to the MIPCOM Content Market. The team, functioning under the "South African Indies" banner, will be in Cannes, France, on the 13th until the 16th of October 2014 and will be operating from the South African stand at the Market. The SA Indies Stand is located at stand no. P-1 A.8 at the Palais des Festivals. This is the second trade mission to MIPCOM facilitated by the ATFT.
The purpose of the trip is for South African producers to showcase and sell their films and works in any stage of development or production, to forge co-production partnerships, and also to participate in a global market and develop new audiences for South African content. The delegation will also market the country as one of the world's top production destinations. MIPCOM 2014 will have 13,500 participants from a hundred countries, with 4,000 buyers and 267 journalists.
We are also proud to announce that ATFT member, Tariq Khan of OOMPH! Animation, has been selected among 122 projects from 29 countries to pitch his project, OONGU LOONGU: Animal Palace, at the third edition of the MIPJunior International Pitch in front of an esteemed international jury, representing National Geographic Kids, Amazon Studios and Turner Broadcasting Systems Europe, to name a few.
OONGU LOONGU: Animal Palace, is a children's animated comedy TV series, the first ever fictional kids show acting as a platform to address factual wildlife and conservation issues in an attempt to educate and create an awareness globally, while entertaining.
ATFT organised export 'market readiness workshops' in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, and Nelson Mandela Bay (Port Elizabeth), to prepare potential delegates for attending MIPCOM in order to make the most of their time in Cannes, France.
