The awards were launched this year to recognise the 702 OUTsurance pointsmen and women who direct traffic at important intersections during peak hours. Many of these pointspeople go the extra mile to make a significant difference in the lives of Joburg and Tshwane motorists.
Listeners are asked to nominate their favourite pointsman or woman and share their story of how that person helps them make it to work, and home again, on time.
Louise van Dyk wrote into Talk Radio 702 and nominated Gilbert , who operates on the busy intersection of Lynn and Cura in Equestria, Pretoria.
"Ever since Gilbert started working as a pointsman in Equestria, driving to work has become a pleasure," she wrote. "I initially thought that Gilbert would get some resistance from road users because they were not used to his presence at this high speed spot but Gilbert is so professional that he has become highly appreciated by all who use this route."
Gilbert has won a R5 000 voucher from Builders Warehouse for his commendable performance and dedication and will go into the annual competition for the OUTsurance Poinstman of the Year award.
Louise wins R1 000 Builders Warehouse voucher to thank her for taking the time to recognise Gilbert. To nominate your 702 OUTsurance pointsman or woman, visit
