Happy sixth birthday - Traffic Freeflow and the OUTsurance 702 Pointsmen Project!
In 2005 a small group of work colleagues had but one wish - to reduce the time spent by commuters stuck in traffic jams, within the environs of SA's major cities. The solution? Sponsorship of additional pointsmen across Johannesburg's road network, to alleviate congestion at key intersections, during peak periods.
After much negotiation with various stakeholders, Traffic Freeflow (Pty) LTD and the OUTsurance 702 Pointsmen Project, in conjunction with the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) was born.
Little did anyone know that six years later this single wish which started with a mere 21 Pointsmen would translate into a far-reaching dream, providing employment for nearly 200 mobile and static pointsmen and women, as well as their field operations and support staff, via such a highly effective community service project. The footprint now spans across Johannesburg including Soweto and Tshwane, making a positive impact on hundreds of thousands of motorists on a daily basis.
Colleen Bekker, CEO of Traffic Freeflow comments, "The roll-out of the operation into Tshwane was the highlight of our year, providing further employment and promotion opportunities in a completely new region. The response from the public has been overwhelming. Our winning formula is the passion of the employees and the culture within the organization we have developed over the past 6 years."
Peter Cronje, Head of Marketing at OUTsurance added, "Traffic Freeflow understand our brand requirements and ensure that the role of being a brand ambassador is as important as that of being an efficient pointsman. The project continues to build unquantifiable brand equity year on year. Happy Birthday Traffic Freeflow!"
Pheladi Gwangwa, Station Manager for Talk Radio 702 had this to say, "I am always bowled over by the commitment, dedication and enthusiasm of our pointsmen. As a listener, you might just drive past them, and not pay much attention to what they do, but when you meet them up close and personal, you realise that their commitment is total."
On the occasion of our 6th Birthday, we would like to convey our sincere thanks and appreciation to all our stakeholders, sponsors and clients, including headline sponsor - OUTsurance, The Cities of Johannesburg and Tshwane, as well as their Metro Police Departments, Talk Radio 702, The Kit Group and the many sub-sponsors for their meaningful contributions to our success.
Just as we have made a difference in the daily journey of so many motorists over the last six years, we hope that they, and our partners will continue with us on our journey for many, many more years to come!
