The OUTshine awards ask 702 listeners to nominate those pointsmen who go the extra mile to make commuters' lives easier.
"The OUTsurance 702 pointsmen and women have made a significant difference in the lives of Joburg's motorists," said 702 trafficologist, Aki Anastasiou. "Many of these pointsmen and women go beyond the call of duty and these awards aim ot recognise their contribution."
Maria works at the intersection of Woodlands and Kelvin Drive and was nominated by Jerome Khan.
"I share the same frustrations as most road users but Maria eases rush hour tension with her warm smile and friendly gestures," said Jerome. "Her enthusiasm adds so much more to the role of pointsman and I think she needs to be commended for that."
Maria wins a R5 000 voucher from Builders Warehouse and will go forward into the OUTshine Pointsman of the Year award.
